What The Lion Said

Even though age has slyly snipped away at my eye-sight
When I am alone in my room at night I still see the eyes
of the lion glinting at me in the darkness I can still hear
its voice like rough silk rumbling my name in a low growl.

Even though many suns have rose and drowned beneath
the thrashing waters of the burning sea I still see teeth
cruel teeth within merciless jaws glinting at me as the
demons and tiny devils sing songs and cavort at our feet.

He gifted me not extra Time but a vivid, sharp memory
so that I can continue to tell my story, give testimony
to the mercy shown me when my friends had skulked
away and the king well he had no choice but to pray.

When I was thrown into the blackness with the beast
ever ready – my personal high priest, watching me,
approaching me on golden limbs tipped with claws
so sharp they could easily sever a mortal in half.

The creature came so close I could feel it’s breath on
my face when it spoke, its jaws brushing against my
hair and trembling ear as it whispered words that
I never thought I would hear. It said to me ‘Oh,

Oh Daniel, servant of the living God is thy God whom
thou serve able to deliver thee from the lion?
Oh Daniel, servant of the living God is thy God whom
thou serve able to keep thee safe from the beast?
Oh Daniel, servant of the living God is thy God whom
thou serve able to deliver thee from me?

The answer is, yes Daniel, thy God hath sent his
angels with a message to me, it is because of this
that I will merely lie at thy feet, docile, gentle.
Because of the innocency found in thee, yes Daniel,
Servant of the living God, tonight I will not hurt thee.”

Even though age has slyly snipped away at my mind
Even though many kings have reigned and died
Even though many suns have rose and drowned beneath
the thrashing waters of the burning sea I still believe

In the love of my God, in His faith in my faith, in me
And whenever the evil one rests too heavy on me
whenever it gets hard to believe I hear the lion
with its strange, wise eyes whispering “Yeah Daniel
Servant of the living God, tonight I will not hurt thee.”
