Tired Longing

Raindrops stumbled across my window pane
creating unruly lines which ran parallel -
bumping into each other, whispering -
about the look in your eyes when you looked at me.

When your gaze travelled across the room
and mine skittered across the corner you were in.

Raindrops stumbled and slid across the glass
separating my room from the sunrise
while I curled up against the cold and wrote
vague and forgettable lines about your eyes
and the glitter in them
I wish I had seen
But were really just reflections of me.

Raindrops stuttered and stammered
giggled because they were tired.
trying to trace the light in your eyes.
Instead they wound up carefully
tracing the sky.
and I leaned back against the floor and watched
the clouds take shape.
